Tetouan, called the white dove, is a city in northern of Morocco, Berber origin, which means in this language "water fountains". It is located on the flank of Djébel Dersa,
the Haouz plain, 70 kilometers from Tangier and 40 from Ceuta.

Tourist interest

Tétouan has a special charm that is difficult to describe in words. It is perhaps one of the cities who had the most charm for many inhabitants of the country because it is very lively and the atmosphere bring a lot of tourists. It maintains its special essence, with touches of its historical past and a frenetic life that breathes on every street corner.

The city is formed by the old medina, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, and the Ensanche Español district, considered to be the best colonial district

Avenue Mohammed V
Is a maze of streets, alleys, small squares, nooks, doors and windows that attract the tourist. It is simple to be part of the medina, just take a stroll, have a tea in one of the small cafes or talk with its inhabitants. Let yourself go and get lost in its streets.

The medina is divided into three areas: Andalusian, Jewish and Berber.

The heart of the medina is Suq el Hot Square, dominated by the Almandari Kasbah, a curious place where there are many veiled women who sell typical aprons of the city.

Another place that you must visit is the Place du Feddan, a beautiful place where the royal palace is located. And next to the palace are the zaouïas (Muslim schools) Sidi Abdelá el Hach and Sidi Ali Ben Aisa. In this square, which gives access to the Jewish quarter, there are cafeterias and shops.

The Jewish quarter is worth a visit for its splendid houses and the old Queen Victoria Theater.



And of course, do not miss a stroll on Avenue Mohammed V, a pedestrian street full of life at night. There are many cafeterias, "locutorios" (premises equipped with telephone boxes), restaurants, tourist shops and street vendors. In the lower part of the street there are sellers of used books, you will find a wide variety of books in many languages, and then you will reach the royal palace.

This avenue belongs to the Spanish quarter, also called Ensanche, which was built during the protectorate to complete the medina.

The next beach is Cap Noir beach, which extends from Martil beach to Cap Noir. It is much less crowded and quieter than the previous one and is located near luxury residential areas, clubs and golf courses.
